Title: South
Fandom: Tin Man
Rated: G
Summary: Glitch asks Cain a question.
A/N: Just a ficlet. Also, one of the first Tin Man things I wrote, only it's just been on my hard drive for weeks. I ran it by someone (Thank you, Andy! :D ♥) to make sure that it was good, and so here it is!
“How could you tell?”
Cain was startled, though he didn’t show it. He’d been so absorbed in his thoughts about how to figure out whom this ‘Tutor’ was and how to get through the fields of the Papay again without having to jump into a ravine that he hadn’t noticed when Glitch slowed his pace to meet with his own. Cain looked over at the zipperhead. “Tell what?”
Glitch waved his hand in the air, possibly trying to figure out how to put it. “How you knew which direction was south. You didn’t use a compass, but you looked the right way immediately after DG said ‘south.’” Glitch frowned, practically pouting. “That’s just not fair. I’ve never been good with directions, at least I don’t think I have, and how you can just know is completely unfair.”
Cain almost smirked. “Glitch, do you know which direction Azkadellia’s tower faces?”
Glitch scowled. “I just told you, Cain; I’m no good with directions.” He rolled his eyes. “Sheesh, Tin Man, I thought I was the one with only half a brain.”
“Azkadellia’s tower faces due east, towards Central City. I noticed when we were scouting for ways to get in,” Cain explained, deciding to ignore the dig at his intelligence. “We left through the southwest side. I could tell where south was by the suns when we were just leaving the pipes.” He gave Glitch a look. “I don’t have some instinct about where each direction is, I just pay attention to my surroundings.”
“Oh,” Glitch said. He blinked. “That makes sense.” His face lit up for a second before melting away into a sly look.
Cain noticed and raised an eyebrow. “What?”
“Oh, nothing.” Glitch quickened his pace to where he was ahead of Cain. “Just that I shouldn’t have bothered asking you; I already knew how you know where south is.”
“How’s that?”
Glitch looked downright pleased as he called back from up ahead. “Don’t worry, Cain. We’ll figure out some way to get rid of your Boy Scout Syndrome.”
Cain scowled as he heard DG from up front snerk very loudly.
